Today is the 63rd Anniversary of VE Day...

given the number of conflicts around the world these days and the desire to see them come to an end leading to lasting peace.. it is sobering to think back on the great relief that must have been felt when WWII ended in Europe and the first glimmer of hope sprouted in the spring mud...

Sadly, Japan still oomed large, but that , too, would resolve itself...

Now Germany and Japan are influential and wel-respected nations..one can only hope that, in time Iraq, Afghanistan and other ' failed' and frightening states will follow their example and emergeas exemplars of democracy and freedome, tolerance and openess...

we'll see, or, rather, my grandkids will likely see..

still, reason enough for me to hoist a glass or two and pause for a moment in reflection...

There I was , at the head of the old 68th...

Count it the greatest sin to prefer life to honor, and for the sake of living to lose what makes it worth living.
