and ran into one of these guys who I normally only meet as trolls in forums like this. To be honest, this guy made me nervous. This fella enlisted in the Army while he was there, but wasn't shipping out for another two weeks, and it was on the shuttle bus ride back that I had a chance to talk with him and discover how scarily stupid this guy really was.
First off, this guy liked to come across as knowing a heck of a whole lot more than he actually does, and what little he does know is from watching war movies. During the course of talking, he was worried about being given "code reds" and the like, using terms almost exclusively pulled from movies. He also mentioned several times that he figured he was going to end up getting shot. Secondly, and more scarily, this guy was sure he was going to be an officer, simply because they make "a lot more money, butt-loads of it." (his words not mine). When I asked him if he had his Bachelor's, he replied that he'd get it while he was in. This brought me minor relief, as I hoped he would grow up a bit by the time he applied for OCS; but I still can't help but think that if I were his commanding officer, I wouldn't recommend him for OCS in a million years. However, what had to be this guy's most annoying trait was how he referred to and treated women. His word of choice for referring to women were "honeys." Now, before I continue, I must point out that three "honeys" were riding back with us from MEPS, along with 2 other guys, and before we'd gotten 15 minutes into the trip, you could tell everyone else on the van thought this guy was a douche-bag. Whenever he would talk about women (which was quite often), he would tend to use gross and/or explicit terms, and talked about them as if they were objects, and not persons. Which led to another conclusion: The closest this guy has ever gotten to having a girlfriend was his pet female goat back home. We eventually got him to shut up by casually mentioning that he could get in trouble for sexual harassment by talking like he was, but I can't help but worry since this guy wants to go in. Would it be too much for me to hope that the DI's at boot camp will drum his ass out of the Army? ---------------------------------------- "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. Unless there is no God, this guy will be gone in a week.. He'll be " reppearso'ed " [ ragged on by the instructors and probably fail even basic boot polishing 101 ]...
Seen these types many times..they end up crying and spending more time in the Base Clinic on ' sick parade ' complaining of infections in their blisters, their feet hurt, their hands are dirty, etc. etc.. stay as far away from him as possible - the fact that he's even thinking ' code red' means that he realizes he's a ****up who could bring down his unit through his inability to perform even the most rudimentary task..hope he spent more time watching Heartbreak Ridge than he did A Few Good Men guy sounds like crap... There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

hmmmm, these are just the type of guy's you want in yer platoon in boot camp! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he will make it through boot mind you. You always want one or two of this type in your platoon cuz they'll keep the DI's off yer arse! Besides, it makes it easier to shine when compared to those dirtbags.

Isn't MEPS designed to weed precisely this kind of dickweed out?
Also too many guys think its cool and hip to refer to women disrespectfully in the way you describe from hiphop and rap songs. LOL gunny, I would never have thought of the "lightning rod" effect vis a vis the DIs or DSs. ______________________THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS THE PACK; THE STRENGTH OF THE PACK IS THE WOLF--Kipling |

yeah, but it can work both ways, the entire platoon can get punished for his actions or lack thereof. But again, there's always blanket parties and the lessons to be learned from proper administration of same.

well, whatever the case, I'm glad I won't be going to boot camp with him regardless. Like I said, he'll be shipping just short of two weeks, but I'm not looking at going in until after I graduate from college.
I certainly hope that he ends up being a lightning rod for his platoon instead of his entire platoon catching it because of him. I'm having visions of Gomer Pyle in "Full Metal Jacket" already. ---------------------------------------- "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things.
