There is an old axiom that the best way to destroy the Republican party is to elect them. Republicans seem hell bent on prooving the validity of this statement once again.

43 and crew have made mistake compounded by mistake. It is a tribute to our military that we are still in this with a mathematical chance of winning in Iraq. They have painted themselves in a corner where they are politically unable to affect a remedy for the multiple negatives that they have created.

I know that no plan survives first contact with the enemy but the problems they have created for themselves were all too predictable and in fact were predicted by people whose job was to know these things.

As it stands now, they don't have four years, they've got barely less than two years to generate a positive outcome in Iraq. If they succeed they will be regarded kindly by historians and 43 may well be considered one of the great Presidents and Rumsfeld as a dedicated visionary.

If they fail, then the Republican party is finished.

Thud...There is an old maxim amongst some thinkers in this Nation that we lose FREEDOM whenever we have a Republican President AND lose SECURITY whenever we have a Democrat President. I've been a believer in that maxim since '71 when I got back from Nam.

I DO admit that the IRS was "friendlier" about my shenanigans than either of the Bush Administrations were!
