Cutting a 'huss'...'huss cutting'...is another term used by Marines of long past...at least when I was in...for cutting slack...
When I was in...'cutting someone a huss' meant to 'cut someone some slack if they deserve it'.
There are a few 'old timers' that would recall this term...I heard it 36 years ago for the first time.

Welcome back RIML, good to see you.

I hope to see Norm & Linux back soon too.

With all due repect to the MODs, i know you have a job to do, and for that you can become umpopular in a heart beat, but that goes with the job.

But from my experience on other forums, and discussions with forum memebers from many sites, there seems to be common factors, as follows:

1. You get devious and subversive trolls you kick off the trouble, they get people to recact, then pump it it, and then retreat. Very often its the other members being defensive, and quite righty so, they then get moderated, or banned.

2. You get people wo are exposed as total frauds, who have exploited forums and people to their advantage, and have insulted, offened and hurt many a genunine vet, (some of whom i hold in high regard). These people/trols/posers contuinue to insult and flaunt themselves. They provoke and of course they get a responce.

3. It is the members once again who are offended and insulted get are deeply defensive that get drawn into a fight, and it gets heated and emotional, and yet again, they are the ones that get banned or moderated.

This happens on just about any forum, not just here, and its a learnig curve that we all have to go through, but why re-invent the wheel, lets jump ahead.

IMHO, for what its worth, each situation should be wieghed up upon its own merits, with identify what was the trigger.

Lets eliminate the cause, not the effect. Correct identification of target is called for.

This site has so much potential, it has all the foundation work, and you can see that a lot of work has gone into this.

However as in the real world of business, continous improvment called for, but also take into to consideration, its the members that keep it alive, and not make it to much of a sterile environment.

Mike, what you said is on time and on target. I will give credit to TOWGunner for swift and corrective action. He has responded in a positive manner and moved to eliminate a lot of confusion.

I will second the wish for the reinstatement of Linux and Norman.

However, I do have a suggestion. Although I am totally in accord with TOW's desire to have a site where freindly and respectful discourse is the order of the day, perhaps he could accomodate those who wish for a more free-form, anything goes type of discussion as well.

Would it not be possible to have a password protected area on this site which would only be accessible for those who desire to be in that section? Here the children and those who don't wish to be exposed would not have to be and those of us who would actually enjoy crawling around in the blood and spilled beer of a good bar fight could go to accomodate our dark side. (EVIL GRIN - TOW you've gotta get an evil grin smiley) Cool

One must make sure they clean their ears as well as their piece... I also heard the term some forty years ago -

It's "Husk" "H-u-s-k"

As in this rather interesting Report, which I will not post in it's entirety for good cause. Big Grin

So cut me a husk and grant some absolution. For years -- not just during my Marine Corps service, but including stints in the fast-food and retail worlds -- I created wonderfully sterile, well-equipped, and enjoyable environments in which my fellow man could seek relief.

Yeah, but it's a southern thing more than exclusively Marine and that's how it's pronounced down in the bigfoot country. Huss.

They can't say "Horse" either. Big Grin

No 'On Warning's, then? I never got one of those on Mil.com in any case... Frowner

In my, albeit sleep-deprived, opinion, a two tier system never works (which is why some sites prefer to operate a double standard system instead Wink ).

There will always be arguments about what behaviour should be restricted to the private forum. Some would even argue that liberals views are unsuitable for airing in public, provocative as they might be to some posters.

Better off just going to a more free ('liberal'?) speech site, like Fivepaknh's, altogether (be interesting to see how that works out).

Of course, I suggested another alternative many months ago, when I discovered that although my access to most of the Mil.com message boards was still restricted, I could not only post to the Writers' Forum as a guest, but sign on under my current screen-name (Starduck, I think it was, and then Tarduck when a hasty mod deleted the first name because restricting it evidently hadn't worked). I asked if that forum couldn't be re-branded as a kind of Stygian depth where restricted posters could still express their opinions, without decent people being forced to associate with them. It seemed like a cool idea to me, and although I'm against being a moderator in principle and practice ('cause some other mod would always respond to misbehaviour before I did), I would have been quite happy to take Tankerswife19kilos place (maybe change my SN to Lucifer Big Grin ).

They fixed the bug that let me (and presumably anyone else on restriction) post there, though, so that's that...

As of last evening, Linux has had his priveleges restored.
It's entirely up to him to report back and resume.
Unless directed otherwise...there will be no added-on signatures under anyone's screen name: Under Moderation, On Warning, and so forth.
Posting of an appropriate warning should suffice.

Also Fivepak and Eagle. Five brought a lot of people here. Now that the rules are public they should get a second chance. Since the TOU has changed everyone should get another chance.
