Research published in the April 2008 edition of the Psychological Medicine journal suggests that Vietnam veterans with extreme Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) have a reduced sense of smell. The University of Melbourne and Austin Health study in Australia tested 31 war veterans with PTSD and found that those with the most extreme emotional problems were least able to name different smells.

Considering the age group of most Vietnam Vets puts them right on the mark with those who didn't serve in Vietnam. Old age is not picky. Loss of smell may be an early sign of Parkinson’s. The majority of older Americans lose vision, taste as well as smell. I suspect I will find out the " truth " in about 50 years. Smiler
