Down's Syndrome child was used as a bomber

Insurgents used a handicapped child as one of their suicide bombers on election day, Iraq's interior minister has said.

Falah al-Naqib said 38 attacks were carried out on polling stations in Iraq on Sunday and that one of the suicide bombings was carried out by a disabled child.

"A handicapped child was used to carry out a suicide attack on a polling site," al-Naqib said in Baghdad. "This is an indication of what horrific actions they are carrying out."

He gave no other details about the attack, but police at the scene of one the Baghdad blasts said the bomber appeared to have Down's Syndrome.

Eight suicide bombers blew up near polling stations in Baghdad on Sunday, killing themselves and 19 other people.

Al-Naqib praised an Iraqi citizen who was killed while blocking one suicide bomber from reaching a crowd of people outside at polling station.

Isn't suicide a sin in that religion? Or is that superseded by the quest for the 70 virgins? I wonder what they told that retarded kid.

One cannot make generalizations about 'their' religion. Some of the insurgents seems to be using 'religion' as a cover for alternative goals; happens all the time.

What is more urgent is that there is a discussion in some circles in Muslim circles as to whether democracy is in conflict with Islamic law. If that turns out to be the case, we are going to have a real handful.

Hopefully, cooler more reasonable heads will prevail and the two can co-exist, but this is an answer which is not going to be presented soon.

Take Turkey as an example of a functioning Islamic Democracy. It does and can work, but only if thats what the people truely want.

IMO every normal person wants democracy, but it is the economy that decomcracy often brings that they dont want. Capitalism to them is like socialism to us.

I can't say I'm surprised or even shocked by this. Using mentally handicapped is well within my circle of expectation for these criminals. I have always thought they would use whomever or whatever means that would give them the greatest chance of success.


I actually thought they would turn to using women and children much sooner than they did.
