I have PTSD, I have had it for 15 years. From Somalia (Combat) and right after in spain. Sexual trama, I was attacked by a bunch of gay men. Neither are in my records , there was a medicl report of the attack but I removed it from my record ASAP. I did not want it to hurt future duties. I have finaly started to see a doctor at the va about it. It keeps me awake and I get bad dreams. It has affected my life for sure. I am sick of dealing with it and just want to forget.. I think at times I should get paid for this crap but I dont want to be faced with talking about the sexual trauma. Did I say I am a man.... Ya 1% of men in the military deal with this. I am not gay nor did they think I was . It was in spain and I was in the wrong part of town at the wrong time of night.

Do you have a disability rating issued by the VA for PTSD? Have you been seeing a VA shrink for this on a continuous basis? If so when did you start?

Since you state that there was a military medical report written up on this, I was not aware that you or any individual could remove something from your permanent records. Messing up future duties how would that, you were the victom not the attacker. What year did this happen and when is finally I started seeing a doctor about this?

Sorry more questions then answers here, since I am not sure what the question is.

Here was my response soon after he posted initially. And as for removing records, all one has to have is access to the hardcopy health record and yank out pages.

Mike,

Not true, it's likely not many knew how to respond to your situation. I sure didn't and I didn't think you needed comments from one who doesn't have a clue about what you are having to deal with. I would however offer up one opinion and that is you probably should have left the sexual assault in your medical records. Those records were evidence supporting your future claims for PTSD. I hope you at least retained them.

Hope you can find help in getting through this. Being a victim is nothing to be ashamed of. Its not something that you will be able to forget either. Sadly it doesn't work that way.

OK . Here is the scoop. I started to see a VA DR. She only deals with This kind of PTSD.
NO I have not put in for Disability. I do have a rating of 50% with out this. I have not tried to get more. It is not my motive.
I see the VA Dr 4 to 8 times a month. They are working through the part when I record and listen to my recordings. I do this 2 times a week. Every week I remember more . More I dont want to remember.
I have been going for 5 months now.

I removed it from my records when I transferred. In the Navy you hand carry all your records to the next duty station.
My future duty was Camp David. Then it was Diplomatic duty on the Island of Palau. I worked for the President of the so called Country / territory. Also due to the face I was drunk when It happened That was the big black eye I avoided. Only due to the nature of the incident. I was attacked.

I don’t believe I kept the copies of the reports. If I have to I can Get statements by some people who were there. I still know a few of them or I know where the are. My OIC is still in the NAVY. I know my DR believes me. A report from her May be enough. as more than 70% of assaults are not reported. I was also told by one of the rating people . If i get a doctor to say it is more likely this is military related than not. That is what I need per this person.

Mike

Just want you to know, we're right beside you in this bro. Understand about the record, in doing so you likely removed and defused any stigma that might have been associated to you at the new duty station.

Keep working with the VA Dr. Get in contact with your OIC if you can, he may be able to produce a letter backing you up. The main thing is to gain your life back.
