I am a 44 yr old former Marine who wants to re-up. Not for the glory of combat, but for the security of my future, pension and so forth. Is the military today still pushing people out after their tour, not allowing them to re-enlist? I believe that they have raised the age now because of the war. I know the Marine Corps wont take me back but I believe the Army will. Can anyone let me know anything please? I have tried to contact recruiters but they are never in the office and never return calls.
Thanks

George:

We have to determine your eligibility. Depending on how many years/months/days of Active Federal Service you have, we can subtract that from your calendar age. As long as you meet the requirements for Active Duty, 34 y.o., you can apply. Depending on your last pay grade depends on what happens next. There are a lot things that go into putting prior-service people into the Army. DD214s, Grade Determination, are you collecting disability from the VA, any major health problems, any law violations, what your separation code is, etc. I can't make an informed decision without the data in front of me.

CavScout, I'm not sure if you were referring to the age limit for AD when you mentioned "34 y.o.", but the age cutoff for AD is now 39 years and 364 days. Just trying to be helpful, I apologize if I misunderstood. I am 36 y.o., member of ANG and transferring to AD Army. I go to MEPS this Saturday.

pdu850:
You are correct, for a Non-Prior Service applicant can be 39 years old; provided they enter training before their 40th birthday. Prior Service are still required to meet the old cutoff. Transferring from ARGNUS to RA is allowed some different requirements, as it is being kept in-house and there is no retraining involved most of the time.

I love recruiting in bars, but I think I'm recruiting most young women for perosnal use. lol
