For those who have asked for a PTSD forum, the powers that be have created a unique, secure forum for PTSD discussion.
You simply request permission from the board and get authorization to post and there you go. Dave Barker, a very experienced Service Officer and vet is there to assist and answer/moderate questions and commentary. I don't believe there is anything like it anywhere else on the net. Very kind contribution of the site owners. Jet powered ground pounder from the old days |

I totally agree, this is the best and most secure site for this kind of forum. It is a first on the Internet. It leads the way.
So any one who feels that they should use this forum, contact TOW Gunner, and get permission to enter. Trust me its secure and well managed. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mike-d-1960, Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

HOLD THE PHONE, MIKEY !!!
First, let me say I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM!!!!!!! However, I must say this now. Please know that my heartset is to help, not harm. This is a topic I am highly knowledgeable about in a big way. Your PTSD forum has NO PTSD moderators yet. No one. It is essential that a PTSD Forum have PTSD Moderators. Essential. Trust me, after two years developing a PTSD Forum, it is essential to have 24/7 coverage to protect the health and welfare of those behind that sign in list. Secondly, the PTSD TOU must be more stringent than just the basic site TOU and none of that has been established AT ALL. ---------------------------------------------- THE FOLLOWING IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND: When dealing with a disorder as serious as this one, one that can very quickly make a person's mental and physical health plummet on a dime.... ....well, SUPPORTING the person suffering from PTSD is a HUGE RESPONSIBILITY. ----------------------------------------------- THAT FORUM IS NOT READY YET, MIKEY. I am not criticizing you. Again, I admire your enthusiasm. I am, however, CAUTIONING you, your Milspot admin, AND PTSD SUFFERERS that your PTSD forum is IN THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE....AND.... .....THE GOAL is to establish a forum as safe and secure as possible. -------------------------------- Sorry, to intervene here. The first priority is to PROTECT THE PTSD SUFFERER. I do encourage those folks with PTSD to join your PTSD Forum now and get in their input now, during it's development stages. Sincerely and With All Respect & Concern I write these words. As Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, wrote: FIRST, DO NO HARM. ------------------------------------ Trust/lack thereof is a HUGE issue for anyone who lives daily with PTSD. If it wasn't, then your post above wouldn't be a big deal. However, establishing trust in your PTSD forum member's hearts is PRIORITY ONE with your new forum. It's a bad idea to counter that with words of wonderfully enthusiastic intention that aren't quite accurate at this MOMENT. -------------------------------- Geez, I hope I have said this well and gently. It certainly is my intention to help and not harm, to back you all up here. But I'm THE MOM on another PTSD Forum and my job has always been to PROTECT and SHIELD posters who have PTSD. It's ingrained in me now and I can't stop, lololol. You guys have huge hearts and that really encourages me. Sincerely, With All Due Respect & From the Heart, MOM aka VietVetArmyReservMOM This message has been edited. Last edited by: alphadog, |

Moderators are needed for a PTSD forum to function properly. It is impossible to maintain a safe zone, without the ability to edit posts that get out of line.

Mikey,
As Mom was saying..... the forum would require the PTSD Mods to be "the only Mods" of this site to manage the PTSD forum. Explicit rules would need to be agreed upon between the Mod/Mods of the PTSD forum with "total" agreement from this sites Admin and concurrence from ALL other Mods. If a Mod for the PTSD forum can not have this agreement for the PTSD forum ONLY....then no one should agree to Moderate the PTSD forum on this site. Also, yes... the "other" site does have security issues... who can guarantee me that this site does not have some of the same security issues I have seen over there? some folks are purty good at foolin internet web site security attempts. Just thoughts in passin .......... |

Thanks for your input, and i certainly didn’t take it as destructive criticism. I welcome all forms of positive input, suggestions and assistance.
I would like to say that I am not involved in the PTSD forum. That will be down to TOW Gunner to decide and his call and I am sure that he is taking advice from many interested parties. However supporting this forum, and in fact any other form of support for people effected by PTSD is very close to my heart. The people that have posted on this thread i have great respect for, and i taken no offence what so ever. After all, we have the same goals and objectives, and we are on the same side. I am sure that with the wealth of positive support, advice and experience of a lot of people who have taken an interest in this, we can set up something that is a good and positive move towards helping people. I am in total agreement with you that it must be approached with caution, and be the safest possible environment, I have echoed this in earlier threads and discussions. Once again thanks for your input, both publicly, and in private messages, real food for thought. I am sure that TOW and the other MODs will read and discuss with great interest. This is a good, progressive and productive discussion. Regards Mike D (rapidly becoming Mikey) Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

Interesting to know there will be another PTSD forum. I will say however that I find it hard enough to keep up with so many different ones and will stick to "the other site's" forum....unless certain people posting there are moving over here on a permanent basis. It's that trust thing.....

Dave and alpha'poochie'...
I believe I already IM'd 'da boss' on 'volunteering' you two fellers as far as handling that Forum. My strongest endorsement...coupled with some 'bribes' Chuck The Road of Life does not require a map to follow directions. Plan wisely. |

Do the rest of us get a cut on the bribes if we stand up for them?
Oh well, thought it wouldn't hurt to ask... Nice addition to the board. Thanks boss. Jet powered ground pounder from the old days |

Seconded, loud and clear, without any hesitation.
I would also second the motion for Alphadog, again without any hesitation. You have my total support. Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

Brothers, I am really honored that you have requested me to be a Mod for the PTSD forum. However, I must graciously decline the position. Why? My spare time is little and this forum would require FULL ATTENTION of all Moderators.
I apologize for having to decline the offer, my Brothers, but there are better folks out there than I for this position. One I can think of is CherryRead who is a Mod on the mil.com PTSD forum. This man is like Dave B.... down to earth and a true Brother that just wants to help all the others that suffer with PTSD. Brothers, I just can not take this position because I would not be able to fulfill the requirements of a Mod for this forum to the fullest of my capabilities. I just think someone with more ability and experience would be best for your PTSD forum. I wish all of you the best. God bless all of you. |

Alphadog: I think i speak for the others, you'll always be very welcome around here at any time, and your input, advice and interest is greatly valued.
RE: Cherryread, good suggestion, in fact from what i have heard, and seen, i would have no problem with requesting, and nominating. Cheers. Mike D Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

Alphadog:
When it comes to experience as a PTSD moderator you are #1! I remember when you talked me into helping you. It was a great move on my part to serve with you. You helped me learn the in's and out's of editing posts (delete as well!) and watching close for inappropriate posting. You are an asset which is of the highest caliber. I hope you will find time to keep on the site. I know with your family plans you are going to be quite busy. But we want you and MOM to find time to check on your troops. We are your electronic family after all! Cherryread and RVPaulBear are excellent Mod's and I endorse them. |
