Well it looks like we have some real good people turning up, people with experience, honourable military service background, and people that have BTDT, people that I respect.
Good to see you, and you are more than welcome. Chilled beer allready popped, and raised to drink in your honour. Cheers Mike ( AKA mikedaley1960 PTSD Mod on mil.com ) Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

This is my first time for posting.
A friend thought I might be able to get help here. My son Mike was KIA in Ramadi, Iraq last year. I do not know what to say except the normal route of talking is not helping. Do you know of any sights that will handle a mothers lost heart? |

Tina,
I'm not sure a mother's lost heart can ever truly mend, and it's something I dare say I hope I never have to experience. When I first became a Navy mom, 4 years ago now...I discovered a great site called militarymoms.net The moms there have always been very supportive of me and I would recomend them to you as well. I will give you the heads up that they are very christian based, and if that type of thing isn't your alley, then I would suggest militaryfriends.net. Both sites have wonderful people who are very supportive. But I think you may like this rag tag bunch of guys here. I've known a few of them for almost 4 years now, and I've grown attached to a few of the old barnacles. Please, make yourself at home and see if talking to any of us helps. C-Mom |

Welcome. I don't know of any site that would help you. Nor do I know what to tell you about "the normal route of talking is not helping". It's the only route I know of that has helped others that I know of in your situation. I lost a good friend. Although, it helped me to "stay busy"-- and not "forget" about him. So, I started to make a memorial to him. A small thing at first- a framed picture on the office wall, a biography of him, and a plaque. Then I added another friend of mine that I lost. Then I added another. Pretty soon it turned into historical research project spanning WWII to Iraq involving dozens of people, my family and friends and dedicated to all Intelligence Marines and Sailors lost in battle. 103 feet of hallway with historical displays, memorabilia, and the photos or dedications of over 100 people. I felt better, and not so bad after a while. Maybe finding a project that will honor your son's memory will help.

Old enough to know better.
Young enough to care. I'm as old as the answer to the ultimate question. |
