A guy I work with has a brother who is a Navy SEAL. He was married about two months ago in San Diego. My friend was the best man at the wedding. I told him to take pictures of any warships that might be docked. He took pictures of two aircraft carriers. One had the number 76 on it, which would be the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan. The other had the number 66 on it. I looked up number 66 which was listed as the U.S.S.America.After reading about the America I discovered that the America was scuttled in the Atlantic in May of 2005.Does anybody know what the 66 in SanDiego is? Can two aircraft carriers have the same number?Can anyone help me solve this mystery? Thanks!

pvt.pyle the only Carrier to share the no.66 was an old CVE the USS White Plains which was scraped as soon as the 2nd WW was over.the number you see is maybe CVN 68 USS Nimitz which is also stationed in SD.( by the way lets take Navy talk down to US Navy forum I left you a great USN History link down in our forum.

Shows CVN68 Nimitz docked at Naval Station North Island. Camera feed is only 33 minutes old. I see CVN72, CVN76, CVN68, CVN41.
