Stilllooney1 here.
did the IDF in Israel, drafted. Ended up in a mechanized infantry unit. Basic and "AIT"(the Israeli equivelent) In Julees, near the Gaza strip. Spent most of the time in the Siani desert 79-81. Got thrown out for hitting an officer. The guy was going to create an incedent with the Egyptians durring the peace talks fug him. As if I didn't learn, I joined the US Army less then a year later. Did Basic in Ft. McClellan, started commo scool at Ft. Gordon, switched mid stride to engineer school at Ft Belvoir became a 52d10 (generator jocky). Got stationed in DSB 2/43 Patriot Ft Bliss Texass eventually. We spent a total of 9 months doing unit training in the field, 3 weeks on 1 week off. then months of deep maintance on the Generators.I was to short to transfer to Germany when my battalion did so they put me in ADATS (air defence artilary threat simulators) for about six months. I mostly drove a mail truck (sham job)from Fort Bliss to the area they used out in the desert. After the Army (82 -85) I activated my reserves for a year(most of 87) at Fort Baker Saucilito. Diploma, Power generations equipment repair. Certificates of training in MANPADS (stinger missiles), German Head start, Basic training(Duh). Certificate of acheivement for membership in RSOP (Reconnaisance, Selection, and Occupy Position team) Letters of appretiation, 2 for helping the 1/43 with their unit training by joining the aggessor force, twice(got me out of an inspection, and playing soldier instead) and 1 Letter of appreciation (on generals stationary) for a job well done on the deep maintance of our generators. |

Yogi:
There are quite a few sites, try this one for an estimate: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/h-47.htm "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR, 1952 |

Yogi, try this, but it still doesn't give a width without the blades:
CH-47 I still prefer the CH-46. It's a lot more agile and a little smaller. The 47 is just one huge behemoth. I believe it is over the 8 ft wide limit on vehicles for public roadways, though. "We raise our glasses against the forces of evil" |

pelsar, Might have got away with it if the otherguys hadn't started laughing. It also didn't help my case that I had refused rank the whole time. At least I didn't have to do time. They didn't expect much more from me I was a MauMau after all
Warhawk, I lived in Haifa (the political and geographical equivelent to San Francisco in Israel) for ten years, and in San francisco for 19 years. btw whats your screen name in the alternate universe. |

Which alternate universe? Mil.com? I signed up over there as TJC60. Initials and birth year. Pretty unimaginative, but I can't change it. When I was in the Navy, I served with VA-97, call sign Warhawks. Thus WARHAWK97. I also have that name at Trackpads, where I have a grand total of 1 post. I'm also at ARRSE, another Brit forum I can't remember, and Fivepaks new place. I have different names in those places that I won't divulge. BTW, what's a MauMau?

Hey Warhawks how are ya. Tjc60, ok cool.
A MauMau in the Israeli army is the infamous May cycle of old, were all the unedjumacated highschool dropouts are drafted. Usually a rough crowd. Named after some cut throught rebellion in Kenya. I understand it's changed now. |
