I'm sure the Army and Marine assignments are just as impressive, but I never bothered with learning what all those acronyms meant. Big Grin

Actually my favorite ship was the Adams class destroyer, USS Robison (she looked like she was doing 25 knots - sitting at the pier!), but my favorite tour was on the Nimitz, as a snipe assigned to air department - I ruled! Wink Big Grin

Nimitz was my favorite underway command too. I have a soft spot, however for IKE because she was my 'cherry boat'.

Well, my old "Coral Maroo" wasn't much to look at, but she was a damn fine old warrior. God, I love the smell of diesel and jet fuel in the morning. Cool

HAL9000 (*(HAND SALUTE)*)

Jeez, I find it inspiring reading yall talking about your ships (in Dave Barker's case...steam ship) with all that affection! Hell, I don't have anything like those feelings for the vehicles I road on/in. My only ride with my fully armed Bros on a C130 was PURE HELL. Maybe Hueys are affectionately talked about by the Chopper Bros, but they scared hell outta me! Chinooks, just like Harleys, belong no more than 3' above ground (actually, anything that vibrates as much as either SHOULD be ground-bound)! Never thought about huggin' an M-48 or M-113ACAV, either, but I sure did appreciate da weaponry...

Yogi:

The CH-47 was an excellent helicopter. We only crashed one or two a year. Our real problem was their size, people would hit them with vehicles while they were parked for maintenance.

The only mode of transporation I ever had intimate relationship with was issued to me on the first day of basic.

More than a few bad memories involving Hueys and Chinooks.

HarryP...I'm hunting for a Chinook to turn into a motor home. Any idea where I can get a chart of dimensions for em?
