Ron, Thor:
Wellll...I was on SEATTLE from May of 1981 to May 1983. I believe our pre-deployment loadout trip to Yorktown was June, so I was onboard when you were busting the little dope-fiends. When I first got there, the SEATTLE was doper heaven. They even busted two guys for smoking a number IN THE AMMO MAG. Shortly after I reported aboard was when the Navy started the Zero Tolerance policy, and things got better. I was PRP (Nuc Weps Rover), and had to piss in the little jar frequently and avoided the ganja-crowd like the plague. Besides, when I messcranked, a BT3 showed me how to make bodacious bilge wine. At one point I had fifteen gallons a-brewin' in the vegetable reefer... "Sometimes you just have to grab life by the haunches and hump it into submission." |

Man, splavman, that's an impressive list of assignments. FTSCLANT, two Aegis cruisers...nice.
I'm sure the Army and Marine assignments are just as impressive, but I never bothered with learning what all those acronyms meant. "Sometimes you just have to grab life by the haunches and hump it into submission." |

My un-illustrious Army career:
• Nov 1967 – Dec 1968. USATC – Armor, Fort Knox, KY. Took basic and AIT and then was assigned to two basic training companies. • Jan 1969 – Jan 1970. 179th Aviation Company (ASH), 52nd CAB, 17th ACG, 1st Aviation Brigade, Pleiku RVN • Feb 1970 – Nov 1970. 1st Staff & Facility Battalion, Transportation School Brigade, Fort Eustis, VA I ended up being a company clerk and then working in personnel on Eustis, though, I worked in the motor pool for a while in RVN and got to drive a convoy or two. I ended up being a SP5 which allowed me to pull post guard on Eustis (SP5s only) but for some reason they would not give us ammo. When necessary, they always found a trainee to pull guard with a loaded weapon. "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR, 1952 |
