I think we may have run around the same area. Just at different times. |

Went over at 166lbs. Came back at just under 130lbs. Personally, I just loved the tropical climate. Especially at the end of the day when we sat around sipping Pina Coladas.

Yogi; the LRRP was designed to meet the daily required of calories for just the situation and nothing more roughly 2600 calories if memory serves. That said I could eat more than one LRRP a day but could be satisfied with one. Until I was 48 I had a very high metabolism and I could eat and eat without gaining a pound. When we would go to winter warfare training we were authorized a meal and a half (one of the exceptions to the above) and I would eat everybodies left overs I could. I would come back with a 29" waste but I couldn't fit in the clothes as my thighs would be enormous and I had over 19" biceps but only weighed about 155 if I was lucky! So there are exceptions but under normal wartime scenarios that caloric intake if I remember correctly is about 2600 calories.
PS: What is wrong with jumping out of an object that when it is landing is in a controlled crash? |

Told to jump? No. I was smarter than that. I volunteered! When I got to Nam I wound up in a leg outfit. 25th ID. I never knew where I was either. Was all pretty much the same. Mostly in the Iron Triangle. Tay Ninh, Dau Tieng. War Zone 3. Boi loi and Hobo Woods. Never did the REMF thing though. A Co, 1/27, 25th ID, '66-'67 "Wolfhounds" Grunt |

So if a newbie came here to see if he served with any of this sites members, they'd have to sift through pages of bullshit. Thanks for the hijack, guys.

Garsh, all you ground-pounders...
Anyway, here's mine: 20 years active duty, 3 enlisted 17 commissioned. 14 years of sea duty on six ships - USS SEATTLE (AOE 3) USS WADSWORTH (FFG 9) USS AUBREY FITCH (FFG 34) USS BELKNAP (CG 26) USS LASALLE (AGF 3) USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) Other assignments include Commander, U.S. Sixth Fleet, Naval Postgraduate School Monterey CA and Naval Sea Systems Command. Retired 2003. Grunch of fruit salad, but the one that matters is the Sea Service Ribbon with six stars. "Sometimes you just have to grab life by the haunches and hump it into submission." |

I don't "need" one, but it would be a nice token to have!!
There were plenty of dopers on the Seattle when I was on. The sad thing was that the Air Det had more than their fair share of them !! That name rings a bell, wasn't he assigned to the ship's MA force ?? "We raise our glasses against the forces of evil" |
