Uh..
No snow here...56 degrees... Elevation 770 feet. I live in a valley and the climate here is like central California...but all around me are mountains with forests. I'm on the Eastern edge of the Washington semidesert. |

Yogi: I was around 180 when I got in theater! I was an advisor to the Saudis, Egyptians, Kuwaitis, and Syrians. We were a small team and didn't have anything other than those MREs and water. Once the war was over we had to trade (war souvenirs)for anything we got as the Army fwd command would not let us draw or eat with them! Though during the trade I did get a lot of microwave macroni and chili and breakfast cereals with un-refrigerated milk. I lived on that for our stay in Kuwait City after the war. It was that or drive all the way back through mine fields/torn-up roads to get anything in Saudi Arabia.
I loved the C-rats but only had them in an SF unit and we just took some of it, especially the fruit and coffee mixes, our main stay was LRRPs and our own condiment mixes. Weight is a problem when in the field for long periods of time and you carry it. Yes I absolutely dropped to 136lbs. As they were that bad. When I got back to my unit I had to buy all new uniforms because nothing fit me. I eventually left the Army over 190 and am now 220! |

You landed in Seattle and then went to Fort Lewis.
That's in the green and wet West part of the state... |

My favorite was the bread with a little peanut butter and jelly. Believe it or not, the scrambled eggs were on the top of my list to. A little hot sauce, put a bit of c-4 under it and presto, a gourmet meal. |

I'll give you two cases of ham and lima beans for anything you got. And I ate the eggs in the dark, on ambush. They looked ok to me. |

Yogi: In my opinion the LRRP was the best thing going! You could live off one alone and you only had to add a half-canteen cup of water and let it sit for a minute or two. If memory serves me they would give you over 2600 calories and one could sustain someone for a day. They were very light weight and very convenient to carry. We carried condiments in plastic baby bottles and old 45 mm plastic camera storage cans and they could really spice up your meal. Plus we use to take the coffee, sugar, and cream and mix it all in separate baby bottles and all of this could be fit where ever in your ruck. The dried food in the MREs was terrible and the rest was just what you found in C-rats and LRRPs and not worth a damn, except for the powdered Kool Aide was a welcome relief from constant water only. I understand there was an improvement after Desert Storm as the MREs were one of the major complaints. I usually went for the frankfurters as they were like large vienna sasuages just out of the can. I am not a finicky eater but those MREs were horrible!
We use to take the pound cake, peaches and mix our cream as a topping! I liked the Ham and Eggs myself. |

Now you're getting me hungry to! (Hard to believe thinking about c-rats). The peaches and pound cake made you feel like you was still living, sorta. As bad as that crap was, when we went back into base camp for stand down, the food was so bad I'd rather of had the c-rats! |
