Sorry All...
As 'Boats' pointed out my math was a little fuzzy...C'mon; that stuff was 40+ years ago... Now that I'm brought up to speed: Boats writes about the Enterprise doing 47 Knots....thats over 54 mph...not bad; loaded with CAG and the population of a good size town. Haulin' a@ss!! Great pics of 375(The Ruskie?); Bear and Phantom. In the Med; we always had a ready cat with 2 F4's and a Crusader camera ship. We knew these guys were comming (those white "slabs" on the island had a lot to do with that) and those 3 ready cat aircraft would be up and waitng for him. As he did his flyover the Big E with a Phantom on his '6'; and the Crusader off his wing taking pics: He didn't get what he wanted; except some great shots of the 2nd Phantom obscuring his camera bays. This was WAY before Tom Cruise and his role in Top Gun! Really nice shots; 'Boats' I thought all you BM's did was tie those neat little macrame twine thingies around the railings in Officers Country. Good to 'talk' with you. My Navy Clasification was AQ; for the currious. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lou, |

In 'Boats" pic of the Phantom and the Bear, the eagle eye will note a trail behind the F4...
Given the year; that F4 still has its original engines; designed for high altitude intercept. He is running 'rich'; the air is denser at low altitude. He is also nose up; trying not to over run the Bear. It is probably an F4-H; the same as what we flew. The Phantom II was a later breed... Dweeb factoid. |

The Blue Angles...
The F4's they are flying are rhe 'originals'; no heat seekers under the chin. You have posted some great pics here; Boats. People gotta be downloading them like crazy! Wish I had kept my photos; tossed them along with all the other stuff when I got back to the world. Wanted to blend in with the civies. Vietnam was a bad thing back then. Ever participated in a dungaree liberty? On one Med cruise I heard a rumor about one. Seems like the crew of a DD went ashore to bust the Captain out of a local jail. Was that you guys, or just another Sea Story? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lou, |

OK guys; I'll leave you to your ethernet military world...like I said in my firt post; I'm not into the dweeb thing.
Can't help it if my 'introduction' is lenghty. I want to make sure those who read it are getting the whole 'picture'. With the exception of "BOATS" and Rocketeer, I think the rest are internet personas; y'know like groupies around a rock band. Could be wrong; but I doubt it. You guys were pretty "quiet" during the exchange between me and BOATS... Here's my comment on the Big E, BOATS.. I was not a blackshoe but an airdale. I was not part of ships company but a part of the CAG aboard her. Because of my work with the fire control systems on the F 4 Phantom I had the 'clearance' to wander around almost anywhere; the main exceptions being the bridge and the propulsion system. Those. amoung some others; were secured by the Marine contingent aboard. When she made her debute, she was the biggest; badest; and fastest thing on the oceans of the world. Period. In todays parlance: she RULED. Popular Science called her the 80,000 ton Hot Rod. The magazine cover had a dead on front view of her; coming right at you; a bone in her teeth and loaded for Bear. I was aboard; VF 102 Diamondbacks...those are our aircraft you are looking at. Made you proud. During Operation Sea Orbit she was send around the world along with the guided missle cruiser Long Beach and the frigate Bainbridge (that name sound familiar; polywogs? Hint: something to do with Somolia and pirates) In the photo of these ships together during this; the Big E has Einstiens formula E=MC(squared) spelled out on her flight deck by sailors in their whites. I was one of those swabbies standing . The Big E; like the F4 Phantom; were the Biggest; Baddest and the Fastest in the world at that time. I am damn proud to have been a part of the America that has been resigned to the history books. "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" Over and Out. Lou ...I had another post up but I changed my mind instead I was just wondering is your name Louise sounds more like a Airdale name than just plain Lou.

I have to laugh.
I've been called a lot of things in my time, but this is a first. A 'groupie"?!! Well,I'll be damned. Yep,I was pretty quiet between you and Boats exchange 'cause I wasn't in the Navy and seemed you 2 salts were bonding. I am proud to support the military.Regrets, sure,I regret I did not serve.Much like you regret throwing away your military mementos.Right? This message has been edited. Doesn't surprise me much a person comes into a Military and starts talking about 60 mile an hour Carriers.
