Oh, so now I understand why you are a supporter of the V-22 Osprey.

Typhoon
You'd be a staunch supporter of the V-22 if you had to fly into landing zones in aircraft from 1960's. The CH-46 Sea Knight first flew in 1962 while the CH-53 first flew in 1966. Just how many times can an aircraft be rebuilt and be effective? I guess you'd have to have been there-done that to truely understand. Mech...reckon both TC's were looking down into the hatch for thier IPOD's they dropped? As for the guntube, scratch that as a good hiding place for a bottle of scotch out in the field! We used to put C-Rat cans with slits cut in them over the nose of 105 and 155mm rounds to make them scream through the air. Made for a wicked sound leaving the gun tube all the way to the impact area. Bored gun bunnies...... Elizabeth....just trying to get a rise outta ya! This message has been edited. I may not have " been there done that ", but I have been known to design a few concepts that put the fear of Allah in our foes. |

Just surfin' around...
Anyone out there from VF 102 Diamondbacks? We did our 'thing'; starting with the Cuban Missle Crisis and ending with Vietnam. I was a Aviation Fire Control tech and maintained/repaired the 'radar' on our F4 Phantoms. Sparrows; Sidewinders and such. Stationed at NAS Oceana and with a couple of CAGs; aboard The USS(N) Enterprise and another one I can't recall. Had my feet on the ground in a lot of places; Cannes; Beruit: Rota; Atheans; Karachi; Sydney; Danang; Rio; just to mention a few. Played a lot of 'tag' with the Ruskies. Honerbly Discharged (E-5) with some chest spaghetti. Not much into the "dweeb' thing here. Like I said; just surfin' around. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lou, |

'Lo,Lou...and welcome..
I'm the official resident alien here and the boys let me pretend that I can give some orders; so here's my first to you.. as the newbie with [so far ] one post to your name.. you're on the hook for a round at the virtual bar for everyone who was here before you... your impressive record, notwithstanding, we don't offer a service discount for quantity purchases and you're on the hook for cleaning up the empties afterward... enjoy.. looking forward to your input on threads that pique your interest. There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

Welcome, Lou! I am the resident crazy Satanic black metal goddess who loves our troops. Many, many thanks for serving our great country! I shall be taking a double Jack on the rocks, thank you! There is a "Chat thread" in the Off-topic area. Feel free to post your really random question's, and such in there. Otherwise let the games begin!
(By the way Rocketeer is funny make sure you don't read his post's with drink in your mouth as it will be on it's way out of your nose) |

Thanks Rocketeer and "Beth...
Although I will drink an occasional beer or two; I'm not much into that. (Got blasted enough overseas to get it out of my system) Dunno what that virtual bar is all about; but if I could I would send you guys a couple of cases of Lowenbrau direct from the braueri at Grafenwohr. gonna have to clean up the barf and empties yourselves though... November 11th is coming up; I'm doing my POW/MIA 'thing' at our local high school during their Vetrans Day ceremony. The senior class of this high school puts this on; as it has been done for the past 16 years; no bullsh*t or politics; just solace for this Vets soul. Will check out the "threads". Lou:
virtual bar is down the hall to the left, second door on the right..and its okay to BYOB... Good on you for Nov. 11 visits to schools and such, done many myself over the years.. as the boys [ and girls ] of WWII pass from this earth and we're left with second hand reports and books rather than the first hand accounts of those who lived through it, it is more and more important to make sure that the 'truth' holds and the 'revisions' and placatory PC stuff doesn't mask the sacrifice and dedication of those who served... Today, with Korean vets declining, the Viet Nam vets and Gulf war grunts aging and the new vets of Iraq and Afghanistan return to home a new layer is being added to the call to Remembrance.. soldiers, sailors and airpersons deserve to be honoured for their commitment to service and their desire to step up when called.. okay, soap box is being stored for next issue.. BTW... haven's been given my 'complimentary beverage' as yet..[ not complaining, mind, just giving you a heads up. ] There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

Hey I'm a senior in High School and currently going through the process of applying for West Point as well as ROTC and talking to my recruiter about enlisting. Um... yeah thats pretty much it. Oh yeah I'm a distance runner and I kickbox.
If any high schoolers(or anyone really) have questions about West Point or applying to a service academy feel free to ask me because I've recently gone through it all and have been to West Point's SLS. If I can't answer a question I can give you the name of someone who can. So yeah thats all I got. |

Rocketeer
Sounds like you are a WW2 vet....Vietnam here. Yeah; we are getting grey....but we are not done yet. My step dad did the WW2 and Korea thing and retired a light cononel (US Army). My 'real' dad did his WW2 thing too; he 'retired' as a Uscha in the Liebstandarie SS. Got that 'Bev? (read one of your post about your GF and that 'Nazi' thing!) Rocketeer did mention soldiers...Marines qualify. Some of them think they are the chosen ones....Hey; what do I know; I was just an airborne squid; a Shellback at that. And then there was that TAD thing as a FAC... Lots of stories here; some good; some bad. Not much on the other 'threads' on this site....I'm rock solid 'Old School'. |
