My son would say that no "Thank you" is needed. But, as his dad, I appreciate it. My blog page is my way of saying thanks to you. I appreciate all who serve and have served. "Whom shall I send? Sully, you did right by your grandson. My son has been in Iraq or Afghanistan, five or six times. I hold my breath and pray each time. But, when he was trying to decide what to do, I thought a long time about what I should say. This was the only advice that I gave him: Hey Kid, I waited a few days before responding to your e-mail. I wanted to try to give you my best advice on what I thought that you should do. Here it is: You are your own man. How you should live your life is up to you. You need to do what you think is right for (my son's name here). Not (his girlfiend) or me or anyone else. When you look back on your life, your sense of accomplishment or feeling of regret will be decided and felt by you alone. If you make a choice that someone else thinks that you should choose, then, you have lost control of your own life. If you feel regret for making that choice, then, you will forever resent or blame that person for having persuaded you in making that choice. You are a good and righteous man. You are an excellent son. I will always stand by you. I will always love you. Those things will never change in me. No matter what!! If others will feel differently about you if you choose one way or another, then your choice should not be made for them. That doesn't mean that those people don't count or matter to you. But, seeing you differently if you don't do what they want or think that you should do, is their problem-not yours. Those of us who have had our lives touched by you should not control your life. We should love and respect you for who you are. Love, Dad He just reenlisted for three years. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Griz, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" OK, I'm the FNG, so here goes.
Canadian soldier since 82, both Reg and Reserve, but mostly Reg. Just about to hit pension and will probably be heading back to the Reserve world. Served in Bosnia, High Arctic and First Gulf War. My wife is also in the CF and returned from Afghanistan earlier this year. Was recommended to this site by Rocketeer and thought I would check it out. Could even run into some old Jargonites perhaps. Best to all. |

My name is SPC Dorman, I am currently in the Diyala region of Iraq. Been in almost 3 years, active duty US Army. I am a former Social Worker (due to my Psych degree), then a former IT Consultant and Systems Administrator before joining under-the-wire agewise. I am an avid blogger, considering writing a book if given an opportunity.
