Hi gunny,

I'll be more than glad to take whatever avatars you might have, especially ones relating to the United States Marine Corps if your offer stands for other members here. Thank you.

Davy:

click on the forum you want to post to i.e. OffTopic or Point/Counterpoint

at the top left you'll see " New "
click on that then click on " Discussion "

and voila! a space to rant/vent/discuss etc.

go for it Dave! I know you can do it!!

Soory, dave:

don't know what you did.. 1] click on topic thread
2] click on upper left on word " new "
3] click on word " discussion " on drop down menu

should have a box open saying new topic/blank page
with space to print what you want..
if it's being blocked or you're not getting the insert box then I think you got to run some diagnositc at your end or e-mail Admin here to see if you're fully connected.. can't see why you wouldn't get the posting box to scribble in

later

Winnie:

WTF?? you been drinking the cheap no-name beer again while reading cheap Scottish romance novels

where did that come from?: " what's 'ilk' mean?"

well..anyway.. just 'cause you asked nicely..

it is a term from the Scots dialect that refers to names and geneaology.

f'instance

McNab of McNab i.e. McNab [the son] of McNab in reference to lads named after dads.. nowadays we just slap ' junior' onto the kid's moniker or a number; Jason Richbucks the Third.. etc.

back in the day, if you had a title to nobility[ and therefore needed to be identified beyond where you lived or what you did as opposed to Jake the Pig Farmer or Bill the Blacksmith], you got to be known by your title, usually ascribed to the land you owned/ruled.. thus McNab of that Ilk, etc. meant you were the McNab who owned the McNab lands or were The McNab [ the boss/ the only one who mattered among the family ]

for a more edumacated reading of the " Ilk ' phenomenon I suggest you consult Debrett's Peerage under Royalty designations,Titles, Honours and Decorations..

here endeth the lesson..

still ' Ilk" beat the hell out of the American predeliction for slapping redundant nomencalture on kids

Jim-bob, Billy-Jo or Billy-Bob, Jim-bo LOL

at the top left of the forum screen you should see a go button. click it. You should then see in a dropdown menu, presonal zone. click it. then click on personal messenging. Click it. It will show you any and all messeges sent to you or from you.
