SWEET MACHINE, ROY! Smiler

Want to know just how sweet it is:
I bought it brand new and drove it off the show room floor in 1965:
It has all 1964 ½ parts on it.
I am the original owner
It has 98000 miles on it w/original motor.
It is referred to as a secretary six Pak 2+2
I still have the original owners manual and at that time your name and address was typed on the Inside Front Cover.
I still own it today.

The pix was taken after I brought it back to life.

That’s how sweet it really is…. Big Grin

Is that the 200 CI six with an Autolite 1100 carb?

You also have a generator and not an alternator?

Yes 200 CI.. and Autolite1100 carb:
You also have a generator and not analternator? No I have an alternator..

It also has a dealer installed AC unit. Its in MINT condition…..

The 64 ½ had the other stuff. They did not believe the car would go over very well.
The 64 ½ parts on mine are all the window and door handles. Mine is a Jan 65 and they used up all the spar 64 ½ parts. Except they installed the alternator.

I had a 67 Fairlane 500 Two door hard top.

289 V8 with Autolite 2100.

That little 8, I think was Ford's best motor..bang for buck wise. Bulletproof little fukka.

HAL9000, when I showed up at Auburn University for Veterinary School, Summer of '75, I was doing carpentry work and the guy I was remodeling his kitchen for told me he had a car I could use. Bought it for his daughter the year before and she didn't want it. Told me it was a '66 Mercury Comet and was really "nasty" with mildew n' all....wanted $100 for it...

Well, I envisioned a 4-door, 6cyl, auto plain jane and went to his daughter's house and it was a 1966 Mercury Comet 2dr HardTop, 289 4bbl, 4-spd and was covered, inside & outside, in mildew. Had to go get a new battery and it took us about an hour to get the clutch "unstuck", and after cleaning it up, da wifey LOVED burning rubber in it!!! Sold it for $500 when I was a Senior and had two daughters, so we could buy a MINT '66 Chevelle wagon to haul da family around in...

Yep....the Comet is just the Merc version of the Fairlane. A fancier version with nicer trim. I liked the aircraft style guages in that.

Now a 289 with the 4100....that's PEPPY!

You can't find these cars for 500 dollars anymore...except as scrap. My Fairlane cost me just $ 750.00 in 1985 and I owned up until March of last year.

Now a car like that in restored condition is about 20 grand give or take.

Yup. da "sleeper" wuz da "Cyclone", in addition! FAR better looking than the '66 Fairlane!!! I get a hardon thinking about the prices of neat cars back then, when I couldn't afford em...

Makes me NEARLY as horny as pics of Janet "Butch" Reno in da NUDE!!!

Yogi..

This is almost exactly what I had. Had the stock wheels and hubcaps on mine though. But it was this color.

It was my first car. Paid for it by bagging groceries. Bought it with cash.

Kids these days are not so lucky to start with classics like this. They get rice burners now.

You know it! Especially if it were in that kind of shape like in the image. God I miss that car. The smell of gas...wife hated that....the sound of that little V8 when I stepped on it. Nicest damned highway car too.

whoa, Roy, SA-WEEET INDEED!

now I think the finest car I ever drove was my ex's...a 1962 Mercury Monterey..a big black batmobile of a car..but it was a heckuva thing..had under 100,000 original miles on it when he inherited it in 87..and until I left him..I drove the hell outta the beast all over GA..

fugger pawned it after I left for six hundred bucks and if had of told me I would have flat out bought it from him for twice that, but I was not even in the country at the time, dammit..or at the very least, mailed payments to the pawn shop..but he never let me know, and never paid to keep it..what a damn fool..

I pasted a URL in for a custom avatar. It shows up on my profile page, but not here. What did I do wrong? Is there a minimum post count to have an avatar?

I'm curious. Why was a Marine rank chosen for this level of posting? I'd prefer to have the tag Sergeant First Class.
