I was wondering what a bunch of military types think about the coming global depression.

Not only around the world, even in the United States. The lack of work and diminishing living conditions, are likeley to cause civil unrest.

I'd like to ask you, would you prtect the american masses, or would you protect private property?

You would only be able to choose one.

I beg you fighters to educate yourselves, about what causes such great distances between rich and poor. You will then find the answer as to why so many of your comrades die.

Global depression? I dunno, I think I'd be too depressed to defend anything.

Ofcourse this isn't about clinical depression, it's about economic depression.

Anyone answering this should also keep in mind that you will likeley be ordered to proctect private property, and repress the people. I'm trying to find out if you feel a responsibilty to serve the people, even when you have orders to do the opposite.

Well, all depends. What time is it when I receive the order?
'Cause, you know, if it's real early, and I haven't had my coffee yet, I'm gonna need a little jolt in the morning. The rush I get from killing people usually will get me that, so...I guess early in the morning (before 9am) is the best time to get me to go raging, repressing, and kill a few folks defending property. Then, after I've had my coffee (but before the steroids, they make me grumpy) I could do a little of that there humanitarian assistance/defending the people thing.

Of course, that's all if I'm operating without the implant in my brain that the government put in to control all thought processes.

An economic depression will not cause civil uprising in this country. We have not had any real problems with the many economic depressions that this country has had. Our country produces too much food for people to starve and we will put them in tents before we let them freeze in the streets (though, some will).

Since we are part of the world economy and let our currency float on the open market, it is possible for us to be effected by a world wide economic downturn. What is highly improbable is for the current world economy to die without some sort of world wide disaster that cripples one of the major economies. Unlike the last great depression, the world is more closely linked and the economic strengths and weaknesses less likely to have a major effect on any single economy without the other economies adjusting to pick up the consumer needs in the growing economies.

Hmmmm, let me get this right.... Orders are supposed to be given to the US military to do what? Protect private properties? To exercise military control over the citizens of this country, just because someone (or a bunch of someones) in some other country is economically depressed?

Just for the record Josh, us military types... follow LAWFUL orders. The scenerio you are describing doesn't fall into anything close to those orders being considered lawful.

It is also against the law for Federal troops to act as police officers or perform their duties but they can quell riots (go figure).
