One high altitude(300+ miles) 10+ megaton detonation will put the USA into the dark ages. If you live in or near a major city and you want to survive without resorting to cannibalism you better have transportation that will survive an EMP. Older vehicles without electronic ignition are your best bet. Anything that is totally de-enrgized will probably survive. If you take the battery out of your newer car it should survive a high altitude EMP. Anyone willing to bet their life that someone can't detonate a single nuke in HA above the USA probably voted for Barack Obama.

I think you have entirely too much time on your hands, or you really need to increase your medication.
