We have about 160,000 U.S. military personnel in Iraq. What if that country goes completely psycho into a civil war and our people are in the middle of it?
I worry about it all the time and hope that our military 'planners' (sorry for using those two words together) have some extraction scheme. Jet powered ground pounder from the old days |

OldAFCop, if that happens, God bless their souls !! I'm afraid we would lose the majority of them in that circumstance. I don't see how we could get 160K people out in a short period of time.

quote: "Military planners"? "Extraction scheme"? I see you're in a humorous mood right about now. If it breaks down into a civil war (some will say it already has) I think we are still the big dog but big dogs get bit too. Our options would seem to be either give active support to the Sunni/Kurd alliance - that is if they will not be shooting at each other - or circle the wagons in the dessert and dare anybody to fugg with us. It seems we are finally doing some of the things we should have been doing from day one - using our CA and savvy troop commanders to improve the quality of life for the average Iraqi. Hope it's not too little too late. BTW, ran across a quote from an "old school" dude who seemed to be very aware of the positive benefiets of a draft: "Let him who desires peace prepare for war" - Flavius Vegetius Renatus GTG then, GTG now. This is my last post of the morning. I am at home now with a nice fifth of Johnny Walker Blue. I will consume a significant portion of it and crawl off to bed. Girlfriend frowns upon me passing out on the floor. |

quote: Lose the majority of them? You're kidding, right? They are armed you know, and for the most part holed up in base camps. Some lost, yes, but not a majority. Give our guys some credit. |

Thud: That's a great quote. I don't know the guy who wrote it, but it fits just right with what I have been trying to communicate lo these many months. And hey, I just saw I are a Sergeant; and didn't even know how to spell it! Jet powered ground pounder from the old days |
