So, is the decision to stay home or leave a situational question?

It is a question of CRITICAL importance, and should be decided IN ADVANCE. Myself, since I live in a small town, and my home has a concrete storm cellar, unless there is a bio/chem attack that calls for an evacuation, I would stay. However, it would be highly advisable for those in cities to leave of course..and the sooner the better, because in the best of circumstances the traffic jams are going to be ungodly.

I think if you live in a large city you are not going to be able to evacuate unless you get a big jump on the situ. You'll probably be dieing in gridlock on some choked expressway.
Basically, if you haven't made some preparations, there is nowhere for you to go. |

The official UK Gov advice is "Stay In- Tune In"
To do this you need to be prepared, you need adequate supplies, and must realise that there is a good chance that normal utilities may not function, ans that tap water may be contaminated. So planning ahead, and stocking up, for you and your family is a good idea. Rotate that stock through when you do your normal routine shop, and gradually add to your supplies. In the event of an incident you'll be glad that you have planned and prepared. If nothing happens ever, then youll well kitted for a future camping trip. Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

Mike-D: Don't have a problem with what ya said..but no system is any good if where you are at is easily found by those who would want what you have. So preparedness should take into consideration very good concealment plan. Of course I am worse case scenarioing it but I have seen where the looting goes on after huge fires or Tornadoes. We were told not to bother them! (Another reason I got out of Law Enforcement!) Adequate supplies should include multiple ways to make a fire and multiple systems of purefying water or even good sources of where water can be found. But best is try to keep hold-up somewhere for a period of time. though I am not against firearms in anyway just remember they are not always the answer. People get stupid when they are armed when they should just avoid the situations!

you know, multiple ways of purifying water as well as storing and setting water aside, as well as multiple ways of starting a fire is a good idea. Reminds me that one thing I don't have stocked up that might should is bleach.

Totally agree, you dont go waving it about you have a hoard, people will turn to desparate measures in certain situtaions. I was skimming across the basics, but security of you and your family, and the kit you need to survive is paramount. Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

that is a very good point, Mike-D...so it would also make sense to have items stored like food in different locations easily accessible yet known to only you as well then, wouldn't it?
